Moscow Submarine Museum

I have never been inside a real submarine before and, when I heard about the amazing Submarine Museum in Moscow, I decided to visit it as soon as possible. And it was a great experience in my life! This black submarine is located at the bank of Khimkinskoe Reservoir and is open for everyone who would like to learn more about life of submariners. It was one of the most interesting excurions I've ever attended. At the museum you can touch everything, sit in the chart armchair, jump through the hatchway, ring the ship's bell or do many other interesting things.

The submarine B-396 of the project 641 B, called "Novosibirskiy Komsomolets", was built in 1979 at the factory "Krasnoe Somovo" in Nizhny Novgorod City. It served in the navy from 1980 until 1998, in the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Norwegian Sea.

In 2001 the submarine was sent back to the factory for reequipment, but not many things were changed inside it. And in 2003 it was launched to the reservoir and opened as a museum.

• The length of the submarine is 90 meters, the submarine has one anchor.
• The width is 8,6 meters.
• The draught is 5,9 meters.
• The crew - 78 people.
• The deepest diving is 300 meters.
• The autonomy — 80 days.
• The amount of torpedoes — 24.
• The distance range — 15000 miles.
• The speed — above-water: 13,5 knots / underwater: 16 knots.
• The submarine refers to the second generation of the Russian shipbuilding industry.
• The submarine consists of 7 compartments.

Not far from the submarine, at the embankment, there is an amphibian plane and a motorboat. You can enter the museum at the starboard thourgh the wind-porch.

Some of the hatches inside the submarine are still saved, but traditional doors are istalled as well, in order to make it more comfortable to walk inside it. 

At the museum you will know everything about life in a submarine. You will visit the sleeping berths of submariners, kitchen, isolation ward, chart house, wardroom and others. You will see 6 torpedo devices, all of which could  shoot at the same time pointed at different objects.

Now the submarine has many air-conditioners, but, of course, submariners didn't have such a comfort in the past and had to breathe not very fresh air.

You can visit the museum only with an excursion for not less than 10 people. The group meets at the entrance of the museum. Our guide was a real admiral of the flee. We didn't even noticed how one hour of the excursion flied and listen to him with our mouths wide open :)

  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday – from 10.00 until 18.30
  (the last excursion begins at 17.30).
  Thursday – from 10.00 until 21.00 (the last excursion begins at 20.15).
  
  In winter (October - March)
  Monday – from 10.00 until 16.45 (the last excursion begins at 16.25).
  Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday – from 10.00 until 18.00 (the last excursion begins at 17.30).
  Thursday — from 10.00 until 21.00 (the last excursion begins at 20.30).
  Saturday – from 10.00 until 20.00 (the last excursion begins at 19.30).
  
  The last Monday of every month is a day off.
