Not far from Kitay-Gorod metro station and Ivanovskaya Gorka, there is an old pigeon-house in the former doorkeeper's lodge built in 1900. The lodge is located near the building where Osip Mandelstam, the famous Russian poet, lived.
An affable and enthusiastic pensioner, Vyacheslav Solokhin, looks after the pigeon-house. Born in 1939, Vyacheslav has been a pigeon fancier for more than 24 years. At first, the lodge was in a very bad condition, even without doors, but the pensioner repaired everything himself and planted trees in the yard.
There are about 80 birds in his collection. You can find peacock-like and even curly pigeons, which are the most expensive ones. Sometimes he has to protect his birds from crows, which can peck them to death.
So, if you'd like to see lots of different beautiful pigeons in Moscow, you should come there!
