As of 20 January, there will be a special programme with concerts, exhibitions, films and performances to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary singer and actor.
The Moscow Department of Culture has prepared dozens of events to mark the 80th birth anniversary of actor and musician Vladimir Vysotsky. There will be concerts, exhibitions, plays, films and various performances by young writers who were inspired by Vysotsky’s works. Admission to many of the events is free, but for some of them registration or a ticket will be needed.
The main venue will be Vysotsky’s House on Taganka, located at 3 Vysotskogo Street. The exhibition, Of Course I’ll Come Back, will be on until 31 January. There will be portraits of the singer and works inspired by his songs and roles in plays. On 20 January, Vysotsky’s House on Taganka will host I Love Therefore I Live national festival and competition. It was established to support young writers and poets from all over the country who will recite their works. The competition has three categories: Poetry, Song and Declamation. All submitted works must be related to Vladimir Vysotsky and inspired by him. Another concert will take place in Gogol House at 7a Nikitsky Boulevard. Vysotsky’s songs, literature readings and archival videos will be presented. The concert will begin at 7 pm on 20 January.
“The main stage of the Moscow Taganka Theatre will premiere the play, Run Alice, Run, staged by Maxim Didenko. The play is based on the radio play Alice in Wonderland, which Vysotsky read,” the Department of Culture press service said. The play will take place at 7 pm on 26 January, 2 and 14 February.
At 7 pm on 25 January, the Pushkin Moscow Drama Theatre (23 Tverskoi Boulevard) will present the only run of the play, Gorky. The Lower Depths. Vysotsky., by director Boris Dyachenko. Tickets are available on the theatre's website.
The Eisenstein Library of Cinematography will mark Vysotsky’s birthday at 7 pm on 25 January with the film The Bad Good Man (1973) where Vysotsky played the role of zoologist Von Koren. The library is located at 5/10 Karetny Ryad Street.
Actor, poet and musician Vladimir Vysotsky was born on 25 January 1938 in Moscow. From 1964 he worked as an actor at the Drama and Comedy Theatre on Taganka, starring in over 20 plays. He was also a screen actor and became famous for his appearances in various films: The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed; Two Comrades Were Serving; How Czar Peter the Great Married off his Moor; The Bad Good Man; Brief Encounters. Vladimir Vysotsky was also widely known as a songwriter and singer; he played a seven-string guitar. He died on 25 July 1980.
