Audiences watched performers taking part in Music in the Metro programme. This is a project which took place before a programme of ballet. The event was broadcast online.
Another Night at the Metro took place at the Moscow Metro on 12 March. For this one-of-a-kind cultural and educational project, the Moscow Ballet company presented Café Idiot based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novel. Over 150 people gathered to watch the performance. Some of them won invitations on the metro’s social network pages. The same pages streamed the event live.
The ballet was choreographed by Alexander Pepelyayev who teaches at drama and dance academies in Russia, Europe, the United States and also Africa. He explains that Café Idiot is a place where strange and sometimes mysterious things happen to the audience. “It is a very unusual and thoughtful production, especially when you watch it in the unforgettable settings of the metro at night. Nights at the Metro always impress passengers. After every event, we receive numerous suggestions for the next performance,” Head of the Moscow Metro Dmitry Pegov says.
The event opened with live music in the hall of the station. This was performed by musicians taking part in the Music in the Metro project. The next Night at the Metro will take place in April.
For one night, the project turns metro stations into venues for popular educational events. The goal is to show the exciting diversity of the world around us.
