The park’s inhabitants are to include waterfowl and swamp birds, such as cranes, herons, storks, ducks, geese and swans. Visitors will be able to watch and feed the birds with special fodder from vending machines.
The park will also feature various water plants, including water lilies and orchids, which would be seen from special wooden platforms on pedestrian paths.
“We want to set up the city’s first waterfowl park in Severny that has the appropriate water bodies and wetlands. This ambitious educational project is one of the first parks where city residents will be able to see birds in their natural surroundings,” said Anton Kulbachevsky, Head of the City Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection.
The 134 hectare Dolgiye Prudy Nature Park, home of the planned bird park, has two ponds and seven lakes, two historical estates, Vinogradovo and Zabolotye, which are federal and regional cultural landmarks. The upgraded nature park will also feature an archaeology park, nature trails, recreational areas and much more.
