This monument is not only tribute to the memory of the well-known march Farewell of Slavianka, but is dignities to the military valor and human love.
The melody Farewell of Slavianka was composed and became well-known during World War I, and then in 1941 the same people as well as their children left to the frontline from the same place to the sounds of this farewell march.
Among the unveiling ceremony guests there was a 93-year-old daughter of the composer Vasily Agapkin, the author of the legendary melody. She remembers how soldiers were starting off to the war from the Red Square to the sounds of this march in November 1941. Farewell of Slavianka is well-known to the post war generations thanks to the classical Soviet film The Cranes Are Flying directed by Mikhail Kalatozov. So, the bronze soldier and girl remind of a scene, when volunteers are seen off to protect the motherland.
