Samovarfest: One big tea party to be held on Poklonnaya Gora

Festival goers will be offered tea and traditional Russian food and there will also be a concert given by Russian rock groups. Everything will take place between 11 and 12 June. The festival sites will be open from 10 am to 10 pm.

The Samovarfest, under the auspices of the Department of National Policy, Interregional Relations and Tourism, will take place on the occasion of Russia Day, in Victory Park (Park Pobedy) on Poklonnaya Gora on 11 and 12 June. Visitors will be able to take part in a huge tea party planned for around 3,000 people. Powerlifter Dmitry Khaladzhi will attempt to set a new record by lifting a platform with 10 tea drinkers and samovars weighting over a thousand kilograms altogether. Khaladzhi holds over 60 Guinness World Records.

“We have prepared a very interesting programme for this public holiday. The 10 themed sites on Poklonnaya Gora will include a handicraft fair, traditional bread stalls, an ethnic food court, as well as a large interactive children’s playground. The Russian and other national cuisines will be available to the public in the best traditions of Russian hospitality. All of this will be dominated by traditional tea made in a samovar,” Samovarfest director Natalya Dolgareva said.

During a flash mob to be held on Russia Day, which is celebrated on 12 June, all festival goers will be invited to sing the Russian national anthem. During the two-day long festival, they will be able to sample  traditional food originating from various parts of the country, buy organic foods made in different parts of Russia, watch craftspeople make traditional handicrafts and attend various workshops and competitions. The best music and dance groups, as well as folk and rock musicians will perform on stage. Young Russian fashion designers will present ethnic collections.

Samovarfest will be held for the second time again this year. Two world records were set during the first festival which took place at the Hermitage Garden in 2017. One was a huge two-metre tall brass samovar, and the other was a record breaking enormous tea party when 1,783 representatives of Russia’s 107 ethnic groups gathered at the same table.

Russia Day is celebrated every year on 12 June since 1992, when the Declaration of Independence of the RSFSR was adopted.
