On 28 May, the last Sunday of the month, Moscow will mark National Bicycle Parade Day. Cyclists will pedalling once round the Garden Ring. . On the same day, bicycle parades will be held in other cities across the country.
“We expect the event to draw about 40,000 people,” said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor and Head of the Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development. “Moscow residents and city guests must be at least 14 years old to be allowed to take part in the parade.”
Liksutov added that the bicycle parade was neither a sports race nor a speed competition.
“Everyone can choose for themselves what kind of bike they want to ride– be it one that’s used in the city or perhaps a mountain bicycle,” Liksutov said. “Participants are allowed to ride even the most unusual models if they want. Also, the city will let you borrow a bike if you want.”
National Bicycle Parade Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of May, Liksutov added. This day was first marked last year, with cyclists from over 30 cities taking part in the event. In Moscow, cyclists started from Akademika Sakharova Prospekt and biked once round the Garden Ring.
In all, there were four bicycle parades in Moscow last year, including one held at night, which attracted a total of over 80,000 people.
