The opening of the summer season of outdoor night classical concerts, Classical Open Air Moscow, sponsored by the Vera Kononova Opera Foundation, will take place in the Moscow State University Botanical Garden (Apothecary Garden). Classical masterpieces will be performed by soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre, Mariinsky Theatre and the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre. The event will take place on 20 May as part of the 17th Spring Flower Festival.
The State Wind Orchestra of Russia will fill the garden with a festive atmosphere. Artistic director Sergei Polyanichko has revived the St Petersburg Horn Orchestra founded by Peter the Great who also founded Apothecary Garden. On 12 June 2016, the orchestra set a record for the longest continuous playing of wind instruments: six hours without stopping.
According to Alexei Reteyum, director of Apothecary Garden, this event has been eagerly anticipated since last September. Garden visitors kept asking when the concerts would be resumed. Listening to masterpieces of world classical music in an aromatic blooming evening garden is like something out of a fairy tale. The concerts are the highlight of the Spring Flower Festival and an unforgettable experience.
Tickets can be reserved on Apothecary Garden’s web site and purchased at the ticket office. Alexei Reteyum has announced that war veterans of the Meshchansky district can attend all concerts free of charge.
Night classical concerts were first held in the Moscow State University Botanical Garden in the summer of 2016. Each concert had a full house, with over 3,000 people in attendance.
